The camp instructional staff offers each golfer a tremendous wealth of experience and knowledge along with the diversity required to handle each individual's differences. Director John Means will be assisted by professional instructor Lee Deitrick, current members of collegiate golf teams, and other local professionals.

John Means was named the Head Golf Coach for Men's Athletics in June of 1990. He was the first full-time golf coach for the men's program. Means also served as Director of the Les Bolstad/University of Minnesota Golf Course.

Before signing on with the Gophers, Means served as the golf coach at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, New York. He served eleven seasons at West Point where he directed Army to ten consecutive Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship team titles. His last season he led the Cadets to the Patriot League Conference Championship and was named NCAA Coach of the Year.

Since his arrival in Minnesota, Means led the resurgence of the Gophers as a national power, finishing higher in the national rankings every year and playing in the NCAA championship in the past nine years. The 2002 team, which Means recruited and coached, won the Big Ten and NCAA Championships. Means currently is working with several nationally ranked juniors and professional golfers.

Active not only as a golf coach, Means was a consultant for the National Golf Foundation. A noted guest speaker, Means travels the country promoting amateur golf. In addition, he has served as the NCAA Tournament Chairman.

-Lee Deitrick
Lee Deitrick - Lee has an extensive background in the golf instruction area. He studied the swing under the guidance of such instructors as Jim Flick for 20 years, Peter Kostis, Paul Bertholy, Mike Hebron, Tom Tomasello, Jim Suttie, Rick McCord, Dick Farley, and Peter Croker. He is also a C.H.E.K. Certified Golf Biomechanic who is able to improve performance in golfers by addressing golf-specific conditioning needs, thus enabling the golfer to reach their golf potential and increase their enjoyment of the game.

His teaching credentials include 23 years of teaching experience: Teaching Professional, El Rancho Verde Country Club, Rialto, CA (1980-1989, 2000-present), Golf Instructor for Sam's Custom Golf Center, Rialto, CA (1989-present), Golf Instructor at Ayala Golf Center, Chino, CA (1997-present), follow-up instructor for Golf Digest Schools under Jim Flick (1982-1989), Lead Instructor for the Minnesota Golf Schools (1992-present), and National Golf Foundation (NGF) instructor for professionals, teachers, and coaches (1985-1992). In addition, Lee is a past member of the Board of Regents of the NGF's Association of Golf Educators, where he was Chairman of the Drills and teaching Aids Committee.

Lee uses computer digital video in his instruction exclusively for better communication with his students. He has used split-screen video since 1988. Since 1996 he has been Director of Quality Assurance for Peter Croker's Path To Better Golf Program. Lee works extensively with Peter Croker and other Path To Better Golf instructors (using split-screen video) to ensure that a very high and standardized level of Path To Better Golf Instruction is being taught.
